Spendly is a multi-currency budgeting app and personal finance tracker, built by Telora Labs.
Why it exists
Most budgeting apps are built for people whose financial life happens in one country and one currency. If that’s you, there are excellent tools and you should probably use one of them.
Spendly exists for the other case: you’re paid in one currency, you pay rent in another, you have a savings account or a property or a loan left over in a third, and every budgeting app you’ve tried has asked you to pick one currency and pretend the rest don’t matter.
The workaround most people land on is a spreadsheet with a manually-updated exchange rate column. It works, until it doesn’t — usually around the point where you want to know whether you can actually afford something, and the answer depends on three currencies and a rate you last updated in March.
Spendly holds each account in its own currency, converts at daily rates, and gives you one honest figure for budgets, goals, debts and net worth in whichever currency you actually think in. That’s the whole idea. Everything else on the features page follows from it.
How it’s built
Spendly is a Rails API with a Vue front end, running as an installable Progressive Web App. It’s a small, deliberately unglamorous stack chosen so that a small team can keep it running for a long time.
You can read about how we handle security and what we do with your data. Both pages include a section on what we don’t do, which is usually the more useful half.
How we’re funded
Spendly is paid for by the people who use it. There are three plans — Free, Pro and Premium — and the pricing page sets out exactly what each includes.
That model is deliberate. We don’t sell data, run advertising, or take commission on anything you buy, which means the only thing we have to optimise for is whether the product is worth its subscription to you.
Whatever plan you’re on, including Free, your data exports to CSV at any time.
